The Naval Information Warfare Center (NIWC) Atlantic Palmetto Tech Bridge recently hosted a prize challenge to develop generative AI and machine learning solutions that will enable Navy users to access secure AI capabilities in a practical, real-world manner. We’re excited to share that the CNXN Helix Center for Applied AI and Robotics took first place out of a tough field of competitors!
The contest, titled the “Secure Commercially-Based AI Environment for Real-World Naval Applications Challenge,” was issued by NIWC Atlantic Palmetto Tech Bridge, in collaboration with the Program Executive Office for Manpower, Logistics and Business Solutions.
The winning solution from CNXN Helix™ proposed an air-gapped AI platform that supports large AI models while empowering users with no-code and low-code interfaces—offering the Navy a flexible, scalable solution for mission-critical operations. Adhering to a complex and rigorous set of standards, the concept features both custom and commercially available components that utilize industry-standard best practices to ensure data security, isolation, and confidential computing at every layer. Presenting to the panel of judges, the CNXN Helix team demonstrated a secure, pre-configured environment that supports both experimentation and operational use by non-AI/ML experts. The team was also able to highlight several use cases in which CNXN Helix successfully deployed scalable, flexible versions of the platform within the defense environment.
