Future-proofing IT Operations with AIOps: Three Things to Know

Brad Repetz

The word is out: Artificial Intelligence Operations (AIOps) is transforming IT operations, bringing automation, efficiency, and predictive insights to the forefront. An AIOps platform can empower you to observe your infrastructure continuously for potential disruptions, predict problems before they occur, and help ensure you do not face the same problem in another IT environment.

In a recent podcast titled Future-proofing IT Operations with AIOps and Automation, Cameron Bulanda, VP of Technical Sales and Centers of Excellence at Connection, and Taruna Gandhi, Head of Product Marketing for HPE OpsRamp, discussed how AIOps isn’t just about IT efficiency—it’s about unlocking innovation, reducing risk, and positioning organizations for the future.

Sound enticing? Here are three things you need to know.

  1. Observability is key for efficient IT infrastructure management. It’s hard to get to where you want to go, or where you need to be, unless you know where you’re starting from, noted Bulanda. This is especially important, Gandhi agreed, because the world of IT operations is heterogeneous and hybrid. “You can’t measure or optimize something you can’t see. Observability is the starting point for modernizing IT operations—AIOps provides a single, unified view of a distributed and hybrid IT estate.”

Given that businesses are relying on multicloud and hybrid infrastructures, gaining full-stack visibility is critical. Taruna Gandhi notes that “most organizations we talk to have multiple data centers across the globe, plus at least two public clouds. How do you know what you own? How well it’s performing? Where the hot spots are? This is where observability becomes the game-changer.”

  2. AIOps breaks down traditional IT silos. For too long, silos have been the norm, observed Bulanda. “Cloud, storage, security—each team operates within its own lane. But this approach often slows down resolution time and creates inefficiencies.”

HPE’s solution? “We recognized early on that IT environments would be hybrid and heterogeneous, so we designed our AIOps to provide a single control plane across the entire infrastructure, from bare metal to virtualization to containers, on any cloud or on-premises,” noted Gandhi.

AIOps integrates these views—so teams can see how a business service, which depends on multiple components, is actually performing. This helps break down silos between team members, enabling them to collaborate in real-time.

  3. AIOps is your ticket to proactive problem-solving. AI-driven IT infrastructure management isn’t just about fixing what’s broken—it’s about preventing issues before they happen. Gandhi explained, “If an application is running out of memory, AIOps can see the trend and allocate resources before performance suffers. If capacity is projected to run out in three months, IT can get ahead of the demand instead of reacting to a crisis.”

This proactive approach is further enhanced by HPE GreenLake, which offers customers a cloud-like experience for IT operations management. “Everything is available in one platform with single sign-on,” Gandhi said. “Customers can expand usage, explore additional services, and manage their IT environment more efficiently.”

The speakers noted AIOps is only scratching the surface of what’s possible. “We’re moving toward agentic AI, where automation is fully integrated with AI insights,” Gandhi said. “Today, we already automate routine tasks like patch management and configuration. The next step is AI-driven, policy-based automation, where the system resolves issues autonomously.”

Choosing the Right Partner for AI-driven IT Management

For organizations considering AIOps, Gandhi advised: “Start with business objectives. What outcomes do you want? Ensure your observability data is complete—no blind spots. Look for a partner with a strong ecosystem and proven expertise.”

Technology is only part of the equation, noted Bulanda. The right partner ensures long-term success by supporting your growth, integrating with your existing stack, and helping you navigate change.
