Server and Cloud Enrollment (SCE) is a licensing vehicle under the Enterprise Agreement that enables organizations to standardize on one or more Microsoft server and cloud technologies. To enroll in SCE, you will make an installed base commitment to one or more components. This means committing to full Software Assurance coverage across the installed base of an SCE component. Products available under SCE include Windows Server and System Center, SQL Server, SharePoint Server and BizTalk Server, Visual Studio, and Azure.
In the case of Azure, an Upfront Monetary Commitment was set to $1,200, or $100 per month. Microsoft just announced that starting October 1st, 2016, the new minimum will be raised to a $12,000 commitment ($1,000 per month) – a fairly sizable change.
Sub: So what does this mean for you?
If you are an existing SCE customer, and are currently below the new threshold, you will be able to use a one-time renewal exemption, which will roll over your current terms and conditions, including the Azure commitment thresholds. If you are interested in Azure on a new SCE, consider purchasing before the changes go into effect on October 1st to lock in the lower threshold. If you happen to miss this date, all is not lost! You are still able to purchase Azure in the Open, CSP, and MPSA programs – though SCE will give you the best bang for your buck.
