Secure Your Email with Microsoft’s ATP

Anthony Ruffo

Sending emails in a corporate world is as natural as breathing. Many times, even I find myself opening an email or hitting send without thinking too much about who could be on the other end. In workplaces around the world, employees sometimes treat email almost like text messaging. This relaxed practice makes us more susceptible to threats all around us. Companies can either hope their user community is being safe—or they can do something about it. To help regulate your organization’s email, Microsoft’s Advanced Threat Protection is at your service.

Advanced Threat Protection (ATP) is a cloud-based email filtering service. This service protects your company against unknown viruses and malware while providing top-level, zero-day protection with features such as Safe Links, Safe Attachments, Spoof Intelligence, and Quarantining. Safe Links actively checks your users’ emails for links to potential threats. Safe Attachments will not only protect from known but also unknown threats, routing any suspicious files to an environment that will use a variety of tests to determine its status. Once ATP has completed scans, it will release the email containing the link. Spoof Intelligence is by far my favorite feature; this will detect a user sending emails that appear to be from internal users within your environment. Quarantine gives the ability for users to review, delete, and manage these messages.

The main differentiator between Email Online Protection and ATP is that ATP provides real-time protection against potential hackers and elaborate attacks on your organization. This email filtering tool can be utilized in the cloud, on-premises, or in a hybrid environment, so you can ensure your entire organization is protected.

Microsoft has made ATP easily obtainable for customers. It can be purchased as a standalone service or added to many other online services. ATP can deliver the peace of mind of knowing your organization’s email is protected against threats large and small. If you’re ready to experience the benefits of ATP, experts at the Microsoft Center of Excellence are ready to help you learn more.
