Dell Wyse 5070—The Thin Client for Every Need

Tony Dancona

At Dell Technologies World, Dell highlighted its Wyse Converter and unveiled its new Dell Wyse 5070 thin client, which is being called its “most versatile and scalable” thin client platform. Today, I’d like to go over some of its most compelling features.

First of all, it can support (4) 4K displays running simultaneously, as well as multiple configuration options. You can choose the right configuration for each use case—from task workers and knowledge workers to high-end, workstation-level users—by picking the right processor, graphics, and memory options. Plus, there are specialized options with support for up to six displays. Connectivity options include multiple integrated DisplayPorts, USB 3.1 Type C, and wireless or wired connectivity. The Dell Wyse 5070 sports a small form factor but features 21 ports and slots for remarkable expandability.

The 5070 can be installed in either a Citrix, Microsoft, or VMware virtual workspace, and you can choose between Dell Wyse ThinOS or ThinLinux operating systems—or Windows 10 IoT Enterprise. You can manage the new thin clients through Wyse Management Suite, an advanced thin client management solution that lets you centrally configure, monitor, manage and optimize your organization’s Wyse thin clients. The solution can be used either as an on-premises or cloud-managed solution—or a combination of both—with an easy-to-use interface.

Dell Wyse Converter

A lot of our customers like to convert their PCs into VDI clients as they start their EUC journey, replacing them with thin clients as the need arises. Wyse Converter for PCs runs on top of Windows 7 or Windows 10 and locks it down, instead of completely replacing it like some other vendors do. It works with any OEM laptop or desktop. Just push the converter app with your existing SW management tools, and once the system is running, it automatically checks in with the Wyse management suite through the embedded agent. This outstanding software extends the life of your legacy devices by converting them into thin clients—and saves you money by reducing the need for additional hardware investments. Since Dell is discontinuing its mobile thin client, this is a great way to purchase an inexpensive laptop, slap on the converter app, and get a cost effective mobile thin client for your VDI needs.

Ready to start your own EUC journey? Our End-User Computing experts offer educational webinars, deep dive technical workshops, hands-on lounges, demo environments, and monitoring solutions. Plus, our tried and true journey methodology will get you from VDI to a full mobile environment in a single framework, making it consumer simple and enterprise secure. Give your employees anywhere access—from any device—to all of their apps, desktops, and content completely wrapped in layers of security.
